What you are about to hear are the original songs that were sampled by many of our favorite artists in R&B & Hip-Hop. So, for the next 30 minutes, see if you can name the song that sampled this classics. Enjoy!!!

<img src="http://assets.podomatic.net/mymedia/thumb/1215386/600x600_5293854.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Rapper Heavy D died today after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital. He was 44 years old. His cause of death was not immediately known.

Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, was one of the most influential rappers of the 1990s. He was the leader of the hip-hop trio Heavy D & the Boyz, which gained mainstream fame for the theme song for the TV show “In Living Color.” (The song was first “In Living Color,” Heavy D & the Boyz later recorded a new theme, “Cause That’s the Way You Livin’ When You’re in Living Color.”) Heavy D also rapped on Michael Jackson’s “Jam” and Janet Jackson’s “Alright.”

In recent years, Heavy D focused more on TV and movie appearances. He made a cameo in Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller’s new film, “Tower Heist.” Heavy D performed at October’s BET Awards, his first live performance in 15 years.

In pop culture, Heavy D is also remembered for his mention in the Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 hit single “Juicy” with the lyric “Salt’n'Pepa and Heavy D up in the limousine.”

Heavy D was on the brink of a comeback as he performed on the BET Hip-Hop Awards two weeks ago.

Heavy D., you will really be missed.

Rest In Peace my Brother!!!

Your Favorite DJ/Producer's Producers V.1

<img src="http://assets.podomatic.net/mymedia/thumb/1215386/600x600_5280554.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />I was talking to my homey, DJ Rahdu (www.bamalovesoul.com), the other day about the landscape of music and where it is headed. The conversation seemed to be more pessimistic if anything. However, the conversation took a positive turn when we started talking about producers that are sticking to the script, but still creating beautiful music. Point is, the internet has been a wonderful tool to discover wonderful music produced by unknown and known producers. These producers have been the driving force behind my beats and served as inspiration to keep doing what we do. If it were not for my producing brethren, I would have probably given up on music, but thank GOD for my peers!!!

I first want to apologize for taking so long to put out another podcast. Well as a student, life is busy and sometimes it is hard to step away. At any rate, I decided today to step away and provide you all with another one for your ipods. What you have here is something melodious and soothing to get you ready for those long fall nights. Champaign Soul is a continuation of Volume 1 which spotlighted several gems that were soulful B-Sides and album cuts played back in the late 70's/early 80's. Again, thank me later. ;)
Enjoy!!!

1) Intro - J-Finesse
2) Shadows - Tom Scott
3) Missing Out - 7th Wonder
4) Take a Little Trip - Minnie Riperton
5) Passion Play - Rapper's Delight
6) I Can't Help It - Michael Jackson
7) Onward Til' Morning - Donald Byrd
8) You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine) - Stanley Turrentine
9) Interlude - Quincy Jones
10) May The Force Be With You - Bootsy Collins
11) Ain't Nothing You Can Do - Tyrone Davis
12) Dust to Dust - Cloud One
13) Feel All My Love Inside - Marvin Gaye
14) Two Hearts - Stephanie Mills ft. Teddy Pendergrass
15) Won't You Let Me Love You - Bernard Wright
16) Sleep Walkin' - Cheryl Lynn

Remembering Nick Ashford (1942-2011)

<img src="http://assets.podomatic.net/mymedia/thumb/1215386/600x600_4934206.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Nick Ashford was the other half of the dynamite song writing duo named Ashford & Simpson. Together they wrote songs for greats such as Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell as well as Diana Ross and The Supremes. They also enjoyed a string of hits in the 70's & 80's with hits like "Solid" back in 1984. Unfortunately, we lost Nick Ashford this week and I am sure that many music lovers are not feeling great right now, but are celebrating his musical legacy. Attached is a mix that I felt was needed.

Please sit back and enjoy this mix of a great song writer.

PARTY LIKE A ROCK STAR!!!! CIRCA 2007

<img src="http://assets.podomatic.net/mymedia/thumb/1215386/600x600_4787175.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Back in 2007, me and my DJ partner, DJ Rob Lover AKA DJ ROS ran Atlanta in the clubs and on mix tape. Him being from Brooklyn and me being from Baton Rouge by way of Newport News, we both had the swagg, attitude, skills and the ability to rock any party. ROS went on to DJ at the Geshia House and Opera in Atlanta and is definitely for sure doing his thing. I am proud of him and his talents and would like to showcase with you all the mix cd that put him on the map. This is Party Like A Rock Star. Straight from the turntables, the original mashup style is not to be confused with Girltalk. No disrespect, but I saw this for myself and it was a pleasure watching him put this collage together.

So, sit back and relax and listen to the experience called SUPA DJ ROB LOVER..

P.S. Shout out to my homey and God bless you in whatever it is that you are doing these days. Holla atcha boy!!!

Cherrelle O'Neal (The Best of Alexander O'Neal & Cherrelle)

<img src="http://assets.podomatic.net/mymedia/thumb/1215386/600x600_4664310.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />They were the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell of their time – an unlikely pairing of opposite personalities that made musical magic together. Alexander O’Neal grew up poor and troubled in Mississippi, while Cherrelle was the pampered daughter of a successful attorney in Beverly Hills. He sang ballads with the gruff-voiced soul of a Teddy Pendergrass, while she showed off an appealing voice and good looks on infectiously fast paced dance hits. But both artists, whose most popular songs were often produced by the stellar team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, really took off when they were teamed together on unforgettable duets like ‘Saturday Love.’ Then, poised on the brink of superstardom, both of their careers abruptly fell apart, a casualty of both self-destructive acts and unforeseen tragedies. On this remarkably put together episode, Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle tell the stories of two extraordinary characters whose legacies will forever be entwined...through their music.
Enjoy!!
